A skin biopsy is one of the most effective methods for diagnosis of malignant and benign dermatological diseases. Our team of professionals can guide you through the process of finding the best specialist with modern techniques that are minimally invasive and specialized surgery guided by thorough histological diagnosis in Israel.

There are four known main types of skin biopsies:

  • shave biopsy,
  • punch biopsy,
  • excisional biopsy, and
  • incisional biopsy.

The choice of the different skin biopsies is dependent on the suspected diagnosis of the skin lesion.

Doctors may request skin biopsies to help monitor and/or diagnose possible health problems, such as:

  • skin rashes or conditions (eczema or psoriasis)
  • skin infections (such as staph)
  • diseases (cancer)
  • other medical problems that can affect the skin, such as a metabolic disorder

A biopsy is known as a safe procedure. Although, as with any similar procedure there is a slight risk of complications.

There are few complication that can occur such as:

  • Bleeding
  • Infection
  • Nerve injury
  • Scarring
  • Persistence or recurrence of the skin lesion
  • Anaesthetic problems
  • Wound breakdown

Please, inform your doctor if you feel or see some of the above listed complications.

You will receive the results of the biopsy in a week or two. Your doctors will let you know what they find, but don’t sweat the results. The word “biopsy” does not mean cancer. If you need a biopsy because of a tumor, mass or lump, don’t hit the panic button. Often a bump or lump is benign, which means it’s not cancerous.
